Jakarta (FN), Sep. 4 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet underlined the importance of security matters, which requires ASEAN’s efforts to reduce conflicts in order to maintain peace, stability and ensure prosperity, which is an important basis for economic development.

The premier spoke during a courtesy call by secretary general of ASEAN Kao Kim Hourn on Monday (Sep. 4).

"The secretary general of ASEAN clearly understands the value of peace. If the region is unstable and faces hardship, it will affect the ASEAN economy as a whole. Therefore, ASEAN must play an important role in strengthening and maintaining peace and stability,” said premier Manet.

Prime minister Manet expressed his pleasure and gratitude to the secretary general and his delegation for their courtesy call.

For his part, the secretary general congratulated the premier on his recent appointment as Cambodian prime minister and recent conferment of an honorific title, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei.

During the meeting, Kao Kim Hourn briefed the work of ASEAN on many aspects such as: ASEAN Vision for 2045 has been approved by the ASEAN Political Security Community Council.

Kao Kim Hourn said that ASEAN has launched the ASEAN Digital Economy 2025, which is estimated to reach a budget up to USD 2 trillion by 2030, and ASEAN GDP may as well reach USD 2 trillion by 2030. The ASEAN Economic Community has the largest number of documents to be approved, followed by the approval of the documents of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.

On the occasion, Manet highly praised the contribution of the ASEAN secretary general and the ASEAN secretariat for their efforts and initiatives in advancing the ASEAN Community-building process.

Manet also agreed with ASEAN to focus on the ASEAN Economic Community, which has integrated into the ASEAN region, focusing on the potential to boost the ASEAN economy, especially the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP).
