Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 27 – The British embassy in Phnom Penh is holding Great British Education month, kicking off from 25 September to 31 October 2023. This new campaign is to celebrate, promote and grow the link between UK and Cambodia in the field of education.

The UK Government in partnership with the British Council, De Montfort University (DU), King's School Vattanacville, Shrewsbury School Phnom Penh, the British Chamber of Commerce and local education institutions will provide a platform for Cambodian students to access leading education opportunities in the UK and Cambodia. The month will also showcase the future of education from leading British experts to support Cambodia in the next stage of its development journey.

The British Embassy is delighted to be able to focus the spotlight on these efforts and amplify exciting opportunities and innovative approaches to overcoming key challenges in the education sector. Most activities will happen in Phnom Penh with outreach to several provinces.

"Education is at the heart of the work we do at the British Embassy. Our work in Cambodia includes official development assistance to support education, particularly of girls; exporting British qualifications, education technology and know-how; and inward investment in establishing educational institutions.

Education is essential for Cambodians to acquire the skills the country needs to develop the economy and ensure quality jobs for young people. It will be the key factor in enabling Cambodia to make a successful transition to Middle Income Status.

Alongside education's value to Cambodia's economy and development, I am passionate about the way it brings us closer together as people. Every young Cambodian who studies in the UK or in a UK institution in Cambodia has a special understanding and connection to the UK that will last a lifetime. So I am delighted that increasing numbers of Cambodians are choosing to study at world-class UK universities and institutions.”, said British ambassador to Cambodia Dominic Williams.

Strengthening education links will deepen the bilateral relationship between the UK and Cambodia. It will enhance our cultural understanding, develop trade and investment over time, and will specifically contribute towards Cambodia's human capital development.
