Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 27 – In the first eight months of 2023, Cambodia received more than 3.5 million international tourists, an increase of 250.8 per cent, while the number of national tourists was approximately 12.38 million, an increase of 62.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2022, according to Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet’s congratulatory message on World Tourism Day 2023.

Samdech Thipadei underscored that in the last decade, Cambodia's tourism sector has grown noticeably, but unfortunately, it has been almost completely halted in the last three years due to COVID19.

Under the leadership of former Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen, Cambodia became the first country in the region to fully open the country in all areas, providing favorable conditions for the rehabilitation and promotion of tourism in Cambodia at remarkably fast speeds.

Samdech Thipadei added that in 2023, under the “Visit Cambodia Year 2023” campaign, Cambodia expects to receive 5 million international tourists and 17 million national tourists, and 8 million international tourists in 2028.

The recovery of Cambodia's tourism sector also has the contribution of various sectors, especially the active contribution of stakeholders in the implementation of the roadmap of the plan to restore and promote Cambodia's tourism sector during and after COVID19 as well as strategic plans set out in the past.
