Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 28 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet announced the increase of minimum wages for workers in textile, garment, footwear, and travel products and bags sectors for an additional USD 4. Therefore, the minimum wages will be USD 204 per month in 2024.

The premier wrote on his Facebook account on Thursday (Sep. 28).

"A moment ago, I received a report from the minister of labor and vocational training Heng Sour on the voting results of the National Council for the Minimum Wage on three figures, which are USD 202, USD 204, and USD 213, of which USD 202 received 46 out of 51 votes and USD 213 received 5 out of 51 votes.

According to the vote on each figure and the law on the minimum wage, the Council will set the figure of USD 202 as the minimum wage figure for 2024.

I have been following this minimum wage discussion from the beginning. Improving the living standards of the citizens, including the workers, is the highest priority of the Royal Government. Based on the practical possibilities that the Royal Government can facilitate for the employers, I have decided to add USD 2 to the figure of USD 202. Therefore, the new minimum wage for 2024 is USD 204 per month.

I request the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training to disseminate and inform the workers as well as the public. Along with this wage increase, I would like to inform the workers and the public that I will continue to urge the relevant ministries, institutions, and authorities to monitor and take additional measures to examine the possibility of reducing the cost burden of workers.

In the meantime, I will chair a meeting with the private sector in November to improve Cambodia's investment and business climate to increase competitiveness, attract more investment, and create new job opportunities.

I would like to thank and praise all stakeholders, especially the workers' and employers' representatives, for their professionalism and efforts in discussing this year's minimum wage."
