Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 3 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet strongly urged landlords not to raise the rental fee in 2024 in order to offer mutual understanding in this difficult situation, speaking on Tuesday morning (Oct. 3) during a meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Phnom Penh.

“The four-dollar wage raise is made to help each other in this difficult moment. Whether in small or large amounts, it is a spirit of sharing, and helping each other to survive and to have the opportunity to expand the market to maintain existing jobs and attract more new investors to invest in Cambodia,” the premier underscored.

On 28 September 2023, the National Council for Minimum Wage announced an increase of minimum wages for workers in the textile, garment, footwear, and travel products and bags sectors to USD 204 per month, effective from January 2024 onwards, with the remaining benefits.

Samdech Thipadei also advised the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority and Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) to lower the utility prices for the workers living in the rental houses or rooms.
