Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 3 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet said that the increase in the minimum wage for 2024 is based on the spirit of sharing and helping each other to survive hardship, speaking on Tuesday morning (Oct. 3) during a meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei praised the minister of Labor and Vocational Training Heng Sour, who worked hard to wrap up the negotiations before the Pchum Ben festival.

"Everyone should think that adding USD 4 per month and multiplying them by 700,000 or 800,000 workers is not a small amount. However, we need to understand that everyone faces hardship in this current situation. Therefore, we must adhere to the spirit of sharing and helping each other," the premier underscored.

On 28 September 2023, the Royal Government of Cambodia announced the increase of minimum wages for workers in the textile, garment, footwear, and travel products and bags sectors for an additional USD 4. Therefore, the minimum wage will be USD 204 per month in 2024.
