Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 4 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet agreed to conduct a study on the possibility of opening a Cambodian embassy in Pakistan to expand relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Premier Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Pakistani ambassador to Cambodia Zaheeruddin Babar Thaheem on Wednesday morning (Oct. 4) at the Peace Place.

Samdech Thipadei welcomed the presence of the Pakistani ambassador and sent regards to Pakistani prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar for the congratulatory letter on Samdech’s recent appointment as Cambodian prime minister.

The premier also highlighted the position of the Royal Government of Cambodia in the 7th legislative mandate to continue to implement the policy of maintaining good relations and cooperation with Pakistan, and hoped that the two countries would be able to strengthen closer relations.

Zaheeruddin Babar Thaheem congratulated Samdech Thipadei on his recent appointment as prime minister, and the Cambodian People’s Party's landslide victory in the 2023 general elections.

The ambassador also hoped that Cambodia-Pakistan cooperation will be further enhanced as the two countries have had good cooperation in the past in various sectors, including trade, particularly the possibility of establishing a Joint Trade Committee, which is a good mechanism to expand cooperation.

The defense sector is also reflected in the docks and the official visits of senior military officials, the ambassador added. In addition, both sides also agreed to further promote cooperation in the agricultural sector.

On that occasion, the Pakistani ambassador invited Samdech Thipadei to pay an official visit to Pakistan.
