Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 4 – Cuban ambassador to Cambodia Liurka Rodríguez Barrios told Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet that the president and people of Cuba look forward to welcoming his official visit to Cuba.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Cuban ambassador to Cambodia on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 4) at the Peace Palace.

Liurka Rodríguez Barrios hoped that premier Hun Manet will pay an official visit to Cuba at the invitation of the Cuban president. The Cuban citizens will be ready to warmly welcome his presence.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei accepted the invitation to visit Cuba at any appropriate time.

Samdech Thipadei and Cuban ambassador also discussed Cambodia-Cuba relations and cooperation.

Cuban ambassador reaffirmed the position of the Cuban government and the people towards Cambodia, a good friend of Cuba, and mutual support in all circumstances. Although the geographical location of the two countries is far apart, the warm hearts of the two nations are always close.

Taking this occasion, Cuban ambassador also briefed the good relations and cooperation between the two countries in various sectors such as health, agriculture, and other potential sectors. She also thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for its close cooperation during her tenure in Cambodia.

In addition, on behalf of the Cuban government and people, Liurka Rodríguez Barrios appreciated the Royal Government of Cambodia for sending Cambodian minister of Education Hang Chuon Naron to attend the G77+China Summit in Havana in mid-September 2023.

For his part, premier Hun Manet warmly welcomed the presence of the ambassador and thanked president Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez for sending a congratulatory letter to him on his recent appointment. Samdech Thipadei also recalled the fruitful outcomes of a recent telephone conversation between the two leaders.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei also praised the historical relationship between the two countries, especially in the most difficult time after the ending of Pol Pot regime.

Lastly, Samdech Thipadei underlined that Cuba is a true and good friend. Samdech Thipadei also expressed Cambodia's intention to provide agricultural technical assistance to Cuba, including proposing to promote the expansion of cooperation at all levels, such as exchange visits of senior and technical officials, business-to-business exchanges and people-to-people ties as close as they were during the time of Cambodian late king father and president Fidel Castro.
