Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 5 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet said that in the next ten years, public schools will be modernised and students' discipline will be improved if the education reforms set by the Royal Government are implemented consistently.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Oct. 5) on the occasion of the 26th National Teacher's Day, held at Institute of Technology of Cambodia.

"We are a developing [country]. We must be innovative and passionate to develop the existing materials where necessary. Do not wait for the government to allocate the budget to create a new program,” the premier underlined.

“I believe that the innovation does not affect the students' interests, but instead it helps the students. Therefore, I am confident that it will be successful, but it also requires the involvement of teachers, school directors, parents, and the community. If we can do this, public schools will be modernised in the next ten years, and our children's discipline will be improved. These are the two key points I set out in the education reforms, which will be implemented from kindergarten to grade 12," the premier added.

According to the Pentagonal Strategy- Phase 1, the first part of the Pentagon is human capital development that focuses on five priorities: (1) enhancement of quality of education, sports, science, and technology; (2) technical skills training; (3) improvement of people's health and well-being; (4) strengthening of social protection system and food system; (5) strengthening of quality of citizenship of a highly civilized society with morality, equity, and inclusiveness.
