Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 5 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government has saved more than USD 200 million for 2023 from the suspension of some unnecessary projects.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Oct. 5) on the occasion of the 26th National Teacher's Day, held at Institute of Technology of Cambodia.

"Some unnecessary projects need to be suspended and save the budget for more important projects [...] The day before, I just had to adjust and suspend the spending on some trivial things. I have saved more than USD 200 million for 2023", the premier underlined.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei underscored that the Royal Government has increased the budget by more than USD 200 million to increase the budget for social protection, which is one of the reforms' goals, and only some unnecessary projects need to be suspended.

The premier asked for understanding from officials of other occupations, who receive less compensation than teachers.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also advised to review some programs of the Ministry of education and all other ministries, because some programs are no longer valid; therefore, those programs can be removed and save the budget for some other priority programs.
