Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 5 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet advised transferring scholarships provided by friendly countries for military officers to soldiers instead.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Oct. 5) on the occasion of the 26th National Teacher's Day, held at Institute of Technology of Cambodia.

"I told [defense] minister Tea Seiha that due to war in the past, we currently have more military officers than soldiers. The number of military officers keeps increasing, and they continue to retire one after another. However, we only offer the annual training plan for military officers, but not for soldiers," the premier underscored.

"If the training of the military officers is higher than the training of soldiers, there will be more military officers and we can no longer give them positions. Therefore, we need to request the friendly countries to transfer the scholarships for the officers to soldiers instead," the premier added.
