Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 6 – Cambodian National Police commissioner general Sar Thet met with the ambassador of the United States (US) to Cambodia Patrick Murphy and delegates on 5 October 2023 at the Ministry of Interior.

To begin with, Patrick Murphy congratulated Sar Thet on his appointment as Cambodian National Police commissioner general and expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between US law enforcement forces and Cambodian National Police in the fight against international crimes of all kinds, especially the support of the Cambodian National Police for the request for cooperation from the US.

On that occasion, the ambassador also thanked the Cambodian National Police for providing security and protection to the embassy, including the protection of the US Embassy, the delegation, the diplomatic staff and the residence, as well as the American citizens staying in Cambodia. He also praised the achievements of the Task Force, which has provided excellent cooperation with US law enforcement forces at the US embassy in Cambodia.

In particular, he mentioned the newly established anti-drug law enforcement agencies, but achieved joint achievements in preventing and combating many major drug crimes, which not only helped Cambodia escape offenses related to drug trafficking, but also to assist the US in preventing the import of drugs to the US market.

In terms of money laundering, the US ambassador also congratulated Cambodia for being removed from the gray list and asked Cambodia to pay high attention to the money laundering issues. During the meeting, he also encouraged the Cambodian National Police to assign officers to attend training at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Bangkok.

In response, commissioner general Sar Thet thanked the ambassador and fully supported the US ambassador's remarks. Sar Thet welcomed the ambassador's strong cooperation to achieve better results by encouraging US Embassy law enforcement forces to continue working with relevant departments, both directly and hybrid Task Force.

Commissioner general Sar Thet thanked the US side for providing the training and affirmed Cambodian National Police’s readiness to attend the professional training. He also called on the US to continue to provide more support to the kingdom in terms of human resources and expertise, as well as share key information leading to the fight against international crimes of all kinds.
