Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 14 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet updated the situation of 452 Cambodian students in Israel, speaking in a special voice message on Saturday (Oct. 14).

Samdech Thipadei underlined that the safety of Cambodian students and citizens in Israel is the highest priority of the Royal Government.

Premier Hun Manet mentioned that currently, there are 452 Cambodian students in Israel and they are highly protected by the relevant authorities and Israeli forces.

The working group of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which consists of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the General Department of Intelligence of the Ministry of National Defense, as well as other relevant institutions, closely monitored the situation in Israel through direct contact with the students regularly to ensure their well-being.

Samdech Thipadei continued, he assigned the task force of the Royal Government to set up a temporary safe haven in the south of Israel, bordering Egypt and Jordan, nearly 300 km from the Gaza Strip.

For students who wish to relocate to the safe haven, the Royal Government has provided transportation as well as accommodations and meals.

For the relocation, the students can make online registration and confirm their volunteering.

As a result, as of 10:00 a.m. on 14 October 2023 in Cambodia (7:00 a.m. in Israel), 422 Cambodian students have registered online and confirm to remain in their current area.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei urged all Cambodians in Israel to adhere to the guidelines of the host country to ensure their safety, remain calm, and have faith in the Israeli Government's capacity.

Lastly, on the occasion of the Pchum Ben Festival, Samdech Thipadei wished all his compatriots, especially the students who are living in Israel and their families, happiness, safety, and success in all endeavors.
