Kampong Chhnang (FN), Nov. 22 – Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi expressed his satisfaction with the leadership of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, and Japan intended to continue being a partner and will keep advancing cooperative project that will contribute to the further development of Cambodia.

Ueno Atsushi spoke on Wednesday morning (Nov. 22) during an inauguration for the official use of National Road No. 5 from Prek Kdam to Battambang and groundbreaking for the construction from Serei Sophorn to Poipet.

Japan aims to collaborate closely with the Cambodian government to promote initiatives that will benefit both countries, while taking into full consideration of Cambodian strategic goals.

Furthermore, Samdech Thipadei has clearly demonstrated a commitment to serving the interest of the Cambodian people and has shown leadership in enhancing governance through such initiative as the administrative services and judicial reforms and the promotion of decentralization. These are areas in which Japan has, through past successes and failures, accumulated extensive knowledge and we may offer to leverage that knowledge in order to support the development of Cambodia. With this goal in mind, we have already initiated discussions with relevant ministries and agencies.

While Japan and Cambodia are already advancing the cooperation in various fields in order to further deepen the upgraded comprehensive strategic partnership, it is important not to view the relationship between Japan and Cambodia solely in a bilateral context nor as the relationship where one side does something for the other. Instead, it is crucial to work hand in hand as partners on common challenges in the region and the international community and with the new partnership, Japan and Cambodia will proactively engage in efforts for the regional and international peace and prosperity.
