Siem Reap (FN), Dec. 8 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that Samdech Techo Hun Sen, who called for the relocation of the people living illegally in the Angkor Archaeological Park, would never sell the land to any private sector. The relocation was undertaken solely in the national interest.

The premier spoke on Friday (Dec. 8) during his meeting with nearly 3,000 people who voluntarily relocate to Run Ta Ek Area, Siem Reap province.

Driven by confidence in the leadership and considerate vision of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, people voluntarily relocate to the development areas. Samdech Thipadei added that Samdech Techo's actions are driven solely by dedication to the nation and its people.

"Samdech Techo has no malicious intention to relocate people for land sales to investors. Throughout his life, he has fought for the people and the nation, defending our cultural heritage, and he would never compromise that," Samdech Thipadei underscored.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei expressed gratitude to the people of Run Ta Ek and Peak Sneng, as well as all the people of Siem Reap who placed their trust in Samdech Techo and the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) during the July election.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also sought the understanding of all the people who have relocated to this new area, acknowledging that, from the outset, there was a lack of infrastructure connecting schools, hospitals, pagodas, and markets. However, numerous accomplishments have already emerged, with the commitment to build many more vital achievements for the people in the Run Ta Ek area sooner or later. He affirmed that the lives of the people in Run Ta Ek are becoming stronger and more prosperous.

Samdech Thipadei affirmed that his visit to Run Ta Ek now demonstrates the commitment to continue developing the area for the people.

In August 2022, minister of land management Chea Sophara in cooperation with relevant ministries and authorities organized a campaign to resolve the problem of illegal construction in the Angkor area and other regions. This campaign came after Cambodia received a red alarm from UNESCO to remove Angkor Wat from the World Heritage List given that the residents settle anarchically surrounding Angkor area.
