Hanoi (FN), Dec. 12 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged Viettel, the largest telecommunications group in Viet Nam, to expand its investment in Cambodia.

The premier received a courtesy call by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Viettel Tao Duc Thang on 11 December 2023, in Hanoi, Viet Nam.

Tao Duc Thang thanked Samdech Thipadei for allowing him and his colleagues to pay a courtesy call and congratulated Samdech Thipadei on his recent election as the Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party.

The CEO of Viettel briefed the premier on the company's progress in the field of telecommunications and digital technology in Cambodia and thanked the Royal Government for continued support in facilitating the company's business operations in Cambodia.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei congratulated Viettel on its successful business operations in Viet Nam and Cambodia, and thanked them for their investment in Cambodia, including investment in the telecommunications sector through Metfone, the leading mobile operator in Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei noted the company's active participation in social and humanitarian tasks in Cambodia and encouraged the company to expand its investment in the telecommunications sector and other sectors to promote economic growth and job creation for Cambodian citizens.

Viettel Group is currently the largest telecommunications group in Viet Nam with 76 million customers. The group consists of more than 20 subsidiary companies running different types of business including telecom, investment, real estates, foreign trade and technical services.

Viettel began to invest in Cambodia in 2006 and launched Metfone in 2009. In 2014, Viettel Group reached USD 9.8 billion revenue and USD 2 billion profit, ranking among the top largest enterprises of Viet Nam in term of revenue.
