Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 13 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, along with the Vietnamese side, expressed his intention for the swift completion of the border demarcation between both countries to transform the border into a hub for modern economic development.

Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister Jean-François Tan spoke on 12 December 2023 during a press conference on the return of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet after concluding the official visit to Viet Nam.

"Regarding the timeline for completion of the Cambodia-Viet Nam border demarcation, it's challenging to specify when it will conclude. However, both sides express their commitment to achieving it as soon as possible. Currently, only 16 per cent of the Cambodian-Vietnamese border posts remain to be demarcated. Nevertheless, both Cambodia and Viet Nam are eager to expedite the border demarcation process to conclude this prolonged effort, as this work has been ongoing for many years”, Jean-François Tan underlined.

He added, "The urgency to complete border demarcation is rooted in the shared desire of Cambodia and Viet Nam to avoid complications related to border disputes. Instead, they envision the border becoming a zone for economic development to transform the border area into a modern economic development zone based on stability, peace, and mutual development for both countries."

Please be informed that Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet returned to Cambodia safe on Tuesday (Dec. 12) after concluding a fruitful visit to Viet Nam on 11-12 December 2023 at the invitation of the Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
