Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 14 – Chung Eui-yong, Co-chairman of the Standing Committee of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, expressed confidence that Cambodia, under the leadership of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, is poised for further development and progress.

Samdech Thipadei received a courtesy call by Chung Eui-yong on Thursday (Dec. 14) at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, Chung Eui-yong expressed gratitude to Samdech Thipadei for allowing him to pay a courtesy call, and conveyed his pleasure at returning to Cambodia. He acknowledged Cambodia's rapid and remarkable development across various sectors.

He also briefed Samdech Thipadei on significant activities of the ICAPP in fostering cooperation and facilitating the exchange of views among political parties in Asia.

On that occasion, Chung Eui-yong commended Cambodia for being the first country to host the 12th General Assembly of the ICAPP in November 2024, and recalled the 6th ICAPP General Assembly in 2010 in Phnom Penh.

During the meeting, the former foreign minister also expressed confidence in Cambodia's continued development, stating that under the wise leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Cambodia will further develop toward realising its 2050 vision.

In response, Samdech Thipadei warmly welcomed the presence of the former Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong. The premier thanked the organization for supporting Cambodia's democratic process, including sending election observers to participate in the previous general election. ICAPP presence and statements about the reality of the practice of democracy in Cambodia have certainly contributed to the protection of the legitimacy, fairness and sovereignty of Cambodia's elections.

Meanwhile, Samdech Thipadei added that the Royal Government of Cambodia will continue to actively participate in the ICAPP to achieve a common mission for a peaceful and prosperous Asia, as well as express support for Cambodia's hosting of the 12th ICAPP General Assembly and related meetings in November 2024.

On the occasion, the premier also reminded the ICAPP delegation that under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen in the past, Cambodia has achieved economic growth and poverty reduction, as well as ensuring peace, stability and the democratic process. The new seventh-mandate Government will continue implementing the right policies, including the Pentagon Strategy-Phase I, six priority policy programs, and five key measures, focusing on the well-being of the people, including expanding healthcare services, vocational training, national social assistance programs, informal economic development, and improving education service quality.
