Sihanoukville (FN), Dec. 22 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet requested the Japanese side to expand and improve the quality of National Road No. 1 to Neak Leung Bridge.

The premier spoke on Friday (Dec. 22) during a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.

On that occasion, the premier considered Japan as an important friend for Cambodia, which has been contributing to the development of Cambodia from the past, present and future. In fact, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Cambodia, Japan has made significant contributions to the development of the public and transport sectors, including a number of major infrastructures, roads, bridges and structures.

"I would like to ask the Japanese friend, through the vice minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan [Ishibashi Rintaro] to examine the possibility of further supporting the development of road and bridge infrastructure in Cambodia, such as the project to improve and expand National Road No. 1 from Phnom Penh to Tsubasa Bridge or Neak Leung Bridge,” Samdech Thipadei underlined.

The premier also mentioned the project to build a bridge across the Mekong River, Kdei Takoy-Arey Ksat, which JICA is currently reviewing the request of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said that since Japan is an advanced country in the field of road and bridge infrastructure, he requested the Japanese land vice minister to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and skills, experience and technology on the development of Japan's infrastructure to further promote the development of road and bridge infrastructure in Cambodia.
