Tokyo (FN), Jan. 11 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Chairman of the Supreme Privy Council of the King received a courtesy call by former Japanese Foreign Minister Komura Masahiko on 10 January 2023 at New Otani Hotel Tokyo, Japan.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen offered his condolences to the Government and People of Japan for the recent massive earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture, and a plane collided at Tokyo's Haneda airport. He also thanked the Japanese government for caring for the well-being and safety of Cambodian students, trainees, and workers studying and working in the affected areas.

For his part, Komura Masahiko thanked Samdech Techo for allowing him to pay a courtesy call and shared excitement in recalling good memories with Samdech Techo as an old friend, especially during the peace-seeking process, nation building, and Japan's involvement in the establishment of the Supreme National Council (SNC).

Taking this occasion, the former foreign minister praised the pivotal role of Samdech Techo in achieving complete peace, the rapid socio-economic development of Cambodia, and the strengthening and promoting of Cambodia-Japan bilateral relations.

In addition, he expressed confidence that the new Royal Government under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet will maintain the existing achievements and realise a long-term vision to continue to lead the country more progressively as well as to strengthen and deepen bilateral relations between the two nations, including regional and global cooperation.

Both sides also discussed and exchanged views on regional geopolitical issues, including the Myanmar crisis.
