Xi’an (FN), Jan. 16 – Mayor of Xi’an of the People’s Republic of China Ye Niuping received a courtesy call from Cambodian Consul General Heng Poeu on 15 January 2024. The purpose of the meeting was to collaboratively enhance economic, cultural, and tourism cooperation between the two regions.

During the discussion, Heng Poeu elaborated on the economic ties between the two countries and specifically highlighted Xi'an. He expressed the desire for the establishment of direct flights from Xi'an to Cambodia, aiming to facilitate tourism exchange and foster economic growth for both nations.

The Cambodian Consul General further underscored Cambodia's commitment to deepening relations, promoting exchanges, and enhancing cooperation in investment, trade, and the economy. He underlined the enduring friendship between Cambodia and the People's Republic of China, aligning with the policies of the Royal Government of Cambodia led by Prime Minister Hun Manet.

Heng Poeu sought support for the Action Plan 2024, focusing on people-to-people exchanges and fostering better cooperation in education. He aimed to align with the strategic vision of the Royal Government of Cambodia for the future.

For his part, Ye Niuping pledged support and instructed relevant departments to collaborate closely with the Consul General to achieve the shared objective of expanding and fortifying cooperation between Xi'an and Cambodia.

The mayor expressed expectations for Xi'an enterprises to visit Cambodia, import high-quality agricultural products, promote reciprocal tourism, and collaborate on the signing of a binding agreement to establish partnership between Xi'an and Siem Reap.
