Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 30 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged those encroaching upon Tonle Sap Lake to refrain from invading the flooded area and damaging the land of Tonle Sap as it is a biodiversity hotspot crucial for spawning fish, benefiting citizens nationwide.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Jan. 30) at the closing of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries at the Ministry.

"Some people claim that the Royal Government is uncharitable for not giving away the 20,000-30,000 hectares of land [..] If we maintain the 20,000-30,000 hectares and cultivate fish, we can certainly provide for everyone in the whole nation," the premier underscored.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei added that there is plenty of available land for development, emphasizing the need to find solutions for its rehabilitation to prevent deterioration. He highlighted that the destruction of this area would lead to the loss of biodiversity.
