Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 31 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that peace is a great need for the nation, but security must also be ensured.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Jan. 31) during the launching of "Special Program to Promote Investment in Sihanoukville 2024” in Sihanoukville province.

Samdech Thipadei added that Cambodia had invested considerable effort over the years to promote peace within its borderr, but just six months of security challenges had significantly damaged Cambodia's reputation.

"It took us nearly 20 years after the end of the war to establish Cambodia's image as a peaceful nation. While many tourists visit Angkor, any instances of destruction threaten our security. It's alarming how quickly our reputation can be tarnished; even international television has lost faith in us. We must rebuild it. However, our primary focus should be on eradicating insecurity, particularly in Sihanoukville," Samdech Thipadei underscored.

The premier continued, "Therefore, we must ensure sustainability. There are cities worldwide that were bustling 20 years ago but are now desolate due to a lack of peace. In some areas, people are too afraid to venture out due to security concerns. This joint effort to protect our security and peace is vital, extending beyond Sihanoukville. We must safeguard peace throughout the country. It's imperative to remember: we have peace, but we need security."

On that occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet ordered the closure of the shooting ranges in Sihanoukville and prohibited its reopening.
