Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 31 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration, Provincial Taskforce Unit, and all law enforcement agencies to maintain vigilance over security and social order. The aim is to present the international community with a more accurate depiction of the real situation, countering misrepresentations by certain foreign media outlets.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (Jan. 31) during the launching of "Special Program to Promote Investment in Sihanoukville 2024” in Sihanoukville province.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that for Sihanoukville to sustain its appeal to tourists and investors, ensuring security and order is imperative. Without security, progress is unattainable. Security stands as a crucial factor for both tourism and industrial development, making the enhancement of security and social order in Sihanoukville a priority.

The premier continued that some stories published in certain international media outlets in the past did not accurately reflect the reality, adversely affecting Cambodia's prestige and image, particularly that of Sihanoukville.

The Royal Government and the Ministry of Tourism have implemented various mechanisms to foster international understanding. While security issues occur globally, what is portrayed on television often fails to depict the actual situation. Samdech Thipadei underlined that in some countries, discussions about thieves overshadow those in Phnom Penh. Consequently, Cambodia has endeavored to showcase its reality to the international community by attracting more tourists.

Furthermore, the policy of safe villages and communes must be reinforced. In particular, Sihanoukville must take strict action on security and social order.

Samdech Thipadei urged the Provincial Taskforce Unit to intensify efforts in combating all forms of crimes, controlling illegal weapons, and enhancing capacities for strict enforcement.
