Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 6 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that the COVID19 and inflation crises made the economic situation and citizens’ livelihoods slow down, yet the Royal Government remains committed to making tireless efforts to address all these crises.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Feb. 6) at the annual meeting of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation at the Ministry.

"Without COVID19 crisis, we do not know how far our country has achieved; perhaps the living standards of our citizens will increase. However, we do not intend to dwell in sorrow over what happened. We must accept the truth that we must continue to support the sustainable development. Normally, the fluctuation of the national economy is normal. Without COVID19 crisis, there would have been a global inflation crisis, or other persistent factors. Still, in recent years, consecutive crises such as COVID19 crisis, ongoing inflation crisis and wars that also offered the adverse effect on Cambodia,” the premier underscored.

"Therefore, on the one hand, Cambodia needs to address the ongoing issues. On the other hand, Cambodia needs to strengthen the foundation for the nation's long-term future. What is the solution to the ongoing promblem? We need to prevent the situation from getting worsening as much as possible. Regarding the citizens’ livelihood, we must not allow our citizens to face difficult times, especially in terms of livelihood problems. Thus, the Royal Government must set out many policies and social intervention policies,” the premier continued.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that assisting citizens means supporting the national economy. The national economy can only be stable if the citizens' economy is stable. A country with a sustainable economy fosters a culture where people can support themselves.
