Bangkok (FN), Feb. 7 – Cambodia and Thailand agreed to elevate bilateral relations from "Partnership for Peace and Prosperity" to "Strategic Partnership".

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and his Thai Counterpart Srettha Thavisin held talks on bilateral and multilateral cooperation in areas of common interest on Wednesday (Feb. 7).

During the meeting, Thai prime minister welcomed the first official visit of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet as Cambodian prime minister and his high-level delegation. Prime Minister Srettha mentioned that this visit will boost Cambodia-Thailand bilateral relations more prosperous and stronger.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei expressed his pleasure at the bilateral talks and thanked the Thai prime minister for his warm welcome.

Taking this occasion, both leaders praised the fruitful results of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on strengthening and expanding cooperation between the two countries in multiple sectors such as politics, economy, defense, security, trade, investment, tourism, employment and energy.

Within the framework of strengthening political and diplomatic ties, the two leaders agreed to elevate the bilateral relations from a " Partnership for Peace and Prosperity " to a "Strategic Partnership" for the mutual benefit of the two nations and the peoples.

On the occasion, both leaders also touched on regional and global affairs, expressing satisfaction over mutual support in international forums and promoting cooperation in the fight against transnational crime, online fraud and building the two countries' border into a border of peace and prosperity.

Both premiers also presided over the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) on five documents on bilateral cooperation. The five MoUs are:

1. MoU on Cooperation in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Response between the National Committee for Disaster Management of Cambodia and the Ministry of Interior of Thailand.

2. MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Science and Technology Education between the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation of Cambodia and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand.

3. MoU on Transit Goods between the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia and the Customs Department of Thailand.

4. MoU between the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and the Export-Import Bank of Thailand.

5. MoU between the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and the Thai Chamber of Commerce.
