Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 8 – Jean François Tan, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister underlined that the new Royal Government, led by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, has ushered in a new era in the relationship between Cambodia and Thailand, likening it to a honeymoon phase.

The minister delegate spoke at a press conference on 7 February 2024 after Samdech Thipadei concluded his official visit to Thailand.

Jean François Tan underscored, "As you know, Cambodia-Thailand relations, especially from 2008 to 2011, were strained [...], but since 2011, the two neighbours have diligently worked to gradually improve the relationship, which had reached its lowest point during that time. However, in August 2023, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin were very determined to turn a new page in the history of relations between the two countries."

On the occasion, the minister delegate added that the strong determination of Cambodia and Thailand was evident in the Thai Prime Minister's choice of Cambodia as the destination for his first overseas trip and in Samdech Thipadei's visit to Bangkok.

Minister Delegate Jean François Tan further stated that these developments are evidence of the remarkable progress achieved by Cambodia, surpassing expectations and demonstrating the current state of honeymoon in Cambodian-Thai relations.
