Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that participation in sports competitions reflected the strengthening of friendship, solidarity, relations, and close cooperation between the states and the people of all participating countries.

The premier spoke on Monday (Feb. 26) at the award ceremony for Cambodian athletes, who secured medals and titles at various contests, as well as coaches and assistant coaches, at the Peace Palace.

Samdech Thipadei underlined, "Sports plays an important role in diplomacy and international relations. Participation in sports reflected the close ties, solidarity, relations, and close cooperation between the states and the people of all participating countries."

By hosting the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games, Cambodia won more medals than expected, securing 81 gold medals, 74 silver medals, and 127 bronze medals.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet continued that in addition to winning the games, hosting the SEA Games has elevated national prestige and visibility on the international stage, particularly in strengthening diplomatic ties and fostering cooperation. This enhances good relations between friendly countries, promotes friendship, strengthens and expands international relations, and boosts economic activity through tourism.

In addition, the premier added that another significant national interest is to inspire youth and citizens to increase patriotism, strengthen solidarity, and foster friendships, which significantly contribute to enhancing national unity and peace in Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei also underlined that sports contribute to maintaining a healthy body and promoting the health of human resources, which are critical determinants of labour productivity and the strength of the national economy. Healthy individuals lead happier lives, are better equipped to grasp new knowledge and technology, exhibit high commitment, and foster hope to increase human capital.
