Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet shared recommendations to relevant institutions and athletes to implement in order to promote sports in Cambodia, fostering its growth and continuing to achieve glorious victories for the nation.

The premier spoke on Monday (Feb. 26) at the award ceremony for Cambodian athletes, who secured medals and titles at various contests, as well as coaches and assistant coaches, at the Peace Palace.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Royal Government, with the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports as its core, pledged continued support for sports and athletes both spiritually and financially. He also appealed to all stakeholders to sustainably support sports, promoting growth by strengthening national-international championships and national sports competitions to enhance capabilities and secure more victories.

With the nation's progress and remarkable victories, Samdech Thipadei recommended four additional points:

1. The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, in collaboration with the National Sports Federation, should establish mechanisms to support, train, and encourage athletes at all levels to enhance their competitive abilities, promoting national sports regionally and globally.

2. The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, along with the National Sports Federation, should focus more on recruiting and training talented young athletes to elevate the quality and proficiency of sports for future regional and international competitions.

3. All coaches and athletes are encouraged to regularly practice their skills as building sports capacity requires time, ensuring readiness for various competitions, whether national, regional, or global.

4. The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and the National Sports Federation should enhance technical and experiential cooperation with the Olympic Council of Asia, National Olympic Committees of member states, Southeast Asian Games Federation Council, ASEAN Para Federation Council, and international sports institutions. This collaboration aims to elevate the technical prowess of Cambodian athletes to the highest possible level, enabling broader and more proficient participation in future international events.

Please be informed that for Cambodian medallists, who won in the Southeast Asian Championships, Asian Championships, World Championships and the 20th ASEAN University Games, the Royal Government awarded them with a total cash prize of 3,199 million Riels (approximately USD 780,000).
