Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 19 – Lao Airlines resumed flights between Phnom Penh and Vientiane on Tuesday (Mar. 19) to facilitate travel between the two cities.

Sinn Chanserey Vutha, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), told Fresh News on Tuesday (Mar. 19).

The first flight from Vientiane to Phnom Penh arrived at the Phnom Penh International Airport with 116 passengers, while 86 passengers travelled from Phnom Penh to Vientiane.

Sinn Chanserey Vutha underlined that the resumption of Lao Airlines flights signifies a positive development for tourism, business, investment, and people-to-people relations between the two countries, contributing to increased tourist visits to Cambodia.

The resumed flights will operate three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, utilising an Airbus A320 or ATR 72 aircraft.

Please be noted that Lao Airlines previously operated direct flights on the Vientiane-Phnom Penh-Vientiane route from the 1980s to the mid-2000s. However, due to market factors, the flights on this route were temporarily suspended.

According to a 2023 report, more than 370,000 Lao tourists visited Cambodia, representing a 302 per cent increase, making Laos the fourth largest source of foreign tourists in Cambodia.
