Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister stated that the seventh-mandate Royal Government has continued to promote the implementation of the rural development strategy through four points, speaking on Wednesday (Mar. 20) during the closing 2023 annual meeting of the Ministry of Rural Development in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei also underscored that the new Government has introduced several policies for rural development to narrow the gap in living standards between rural and urban populations.

"Understanding the importance of this, both the National Building and Defense Program for 2023-2028 and the Pentagon Strategy-Phase I of the seventh-mandate Royal Government have clearly outlined the implementation of the Rural Development Strategy as follows:

1. Continuously improving the living conditions of rural communities by prioritizing the expansion of rural water supply and sanitation services.

2. Continuing to enhance the livelihoods of rural residents by expanding the scope of development, connectivity, infrastructure, and rural transportation.

3. Furthering the diversification of rural economic activities to ensure rural communities achieve a decent standard of living through job creation and additional income opportunities.

4. Continuing to develop indigenous communities for economic, social, and cultural advancement."

In the past, after the successful fight against COVID19, the Royal Government implemented the first of the six priority policy programs, namely the provision of health care towards a global health coverage program, starting with (1) providing health care services to more than 450,000 vulnerable families, equivalent to a total of more than 1. 5 million members through the use of health equity funds; and (2) expanding the health care regime for holders of national social security fund (NSSF) cards - both for workers and for public officials, which also covers more than 3 million family members, and their dependents on a voluntary basis.
