Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 2 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the relationship between teachers and parents is a crucial factor in improving education.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Mar. 2) during the closing 2023 annual meeting of the Ministry of Education at Institute of Technology of Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "Parental involvement doesn't necessarily require financial contributions. It's beneficial as long as parents assist in disciplining their children and instill respect for good school discipline. What teachers truly desire is a strong, cooperative relationship with parents. However, I've observed a significant issue, particularly in urban areas, which is the growing disconnect between parents and students."

Samdech Thipadei further added, "Just yesterday, in Kandal province, I witnessed a student making a mistake, and the teacher corrected him. However, when there's a good rapport between teachers, students, and parents, disciplinary actions become much smoother."

Premier Hun Manet asserted that parents and students play crucial roles in education. Education both at school and at home is vital for mitigating the influence of external societal factors. He emphasized that there are only three sources of education: at home, at school, and within society. When there's unity between the home and the school, it becomes more challenging for negative societal influences to infiltrate, especially considering the myriad of elements in society that young people, particularly children, may struggle to discern as either beneficial or harmful.
