Siem Reap (FN), Apr. 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the development of the health sector stands as a crucial task for the Royal Government of Cambodia, aiming to enhance the well-being of human capital.

The premier spoke on Saturday (Apr. 20) during an inauguration of the surgical service centre of Siem Reap Provincial Hospital.

“Prioritising the strengthening and promotion of human health stands as the primary goal for ensuring sustainable development,” the premier said. “Developing the health sector holds significant importance, particularly in coordinating the training of human resources and acquiring equipment, especially enhancing hospital capacities. This underscores a critical task for the Royal Government.”

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also underlined that alongside advanced development endeavours, enhancing the quality of treatment in health centres and district referral hospitals is crucial for providing immediate care and addressing various illnesses. He reiterated the Royal Government's commitment to ensuring health centres remain open, with doctors available to provide services round-the-clock.

Premier Hun Manet announced that in the next four years, the Royal Government planned to allocate approximately USD 1 billion to fortify the health sector. While the strengthening of the health sector remains steadfast and dynamic, the premier underscored that investing in healthcare aids not only in safeguarding lives but also serves as a means to support the population, likening it to assisting the army in saving people's lives.

According to Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, the Royal Government's focus on strengthening health services entails modernising and enhancing treatment capabilities for various diseases, particularly serious illnesses. Over the years, significant efforts have been made to bolster this capacity, notably among national doctors in Phnom Penh, who have undergone extensive training in modern treatment methods, particularly for tackling serious and complex diseases.

With the modernisation and capacity enhancement efforts underway, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet directed doctors and health workers to uphold honour and dignity through unwavering adherence to professional ethics in delivering healthcare services to the people. He underscored the values of honesty, integrity, and equity, stressing the imperative to ensure that no patient faces discrimination or denial of medical care based on socio-economic status, cultural practices, religion, or political affiliations.
