Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 26 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed outrage at the opposition leader Sam Rainsy over his baseless accusations over Funan Techo Canal project. Samdech said that it was wise to set out a policy to get rid of these three generations of traitors as they persistently opposed the national interest.

Samdech Techo spoke on Friday (Apr. 26) during his gala dinner with Cambodian Oknha Association at Garden City Hotel Phnom Penh.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen rebutted assertions made by various groups in interviews with foreign radio stations regarding the impact of excavating 180 km of canals. He clarified that within the 180 km length of the Funan-Techo canal, over 100 km consists of existing waterways, with only short sections requiring new excavation. Cambodia's efforts primarily focus on extending the pre-existing canal network.

On 24 April 2024, Sam Rainsy posted a message criticising the Funan Techo canal project, alleging its adverse impact on the social environment and the absence of a comprehensive study. His criticism found resonance with the Vietnamese side, which also opposed Cambodia's canal excavation efforts.
