Sihanoukville (FN), May 1 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his deep gratitude to the Cambodian people across the country and overseas for supporting the Funan Techo canal project.

The premier spoke on Wednesday (May 1) during his meeting with workers at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.

The premier underlined the significance of the Funan-Techo canal project for Cambodia's future tourism prospects. Once cruise lines enter Cambodia, tourists will have the opportunity to continue their journey to Phnom Penh and onward to Siem Reap to visit Angkor Wat. Additionally, the availability of high-speed ferries from Phnom Penh to Angkor Wat is notable, but the absence of a waterway to Sihanoukville presents a gap. Connecting Sihanoukville to this network would further enhance Cambodia's appeal to tourists seeking extended stays.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet continued that the true measure of tourism is not just its quantity but also the duration of tourists' stays. Longer durations of tourism indicate higher quality experiences and are therefore more desirable.
