PHNOM PENH, May 3 (FN) — A Cambodian court has summoned two opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) to question about their possible involvement in a sex scandal of their deputy opposition party leader Kem Sokha.
According to two separate summonses signed by Phnom Penh Municipal Courts deputy prosecutor Seang Sok on Monday and released to the media on Tuesday, Tok Vanchan and Pin Ratana, both are MPs from the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), are summoned to appear at the court on May 16.
The two MPs will be questioned about their possible involvement in prostitution, the summonses said.
The summonses were issued after Srey Mom, an alleged mistress of CNRP deputy leader and MP Kem Sokha, admitted last month of having an affair with Sokha and claimed that the two MPs had arranged for her to meet Sokha at a hotels room in Bangkok.
The alleged sex scandal between 25-year-old hairdresser Srey Mom and Sokha came to light in February when leaked audio clips of telephone conversation between them went viral on the Internet. In the clips, they discussed sex, pregnancy and paying for an apartment.
On Monday, the court charged six people, including five human rights defenders and a local United Nations officer, with bribing Srey Mom to lie to authorities about her sexual relationship with Sokha.
Since the scandal broke out, Sokha has not publicly commented on the veracity of the audio recordings; instead, he advised supporters not to react to provocations.
