Phnom Penh (FN), July 25 - Phay Siphan, Cambodian government spokesman, on Wednesday, reacted to the US Embassy’s security alert, calling for its citizens to be cautious on the Cambodian National Parliamentary Elections on 29 July 2018.

“This security message is being issued to alert U.S. citizens residing in, or traveling to, Cambodia that the upcoming national parliamentary elections on July 29 may spark political gatherings, demonstrations, or movements of security personnel. Although recent political gatherings in Cambodia have been largely nonviolent, demonstrations or gatherings could turn confrontational without warning,” U.S. Embassy wrote in the Security Alert announcement dated on 24 July 2018.

The spokesman called the embassy's alert a normal measure taken by the US, as the American society faces violence against humanity that made them highly cautious in protecting their citizens from any tragedy.

US used to alert American citizens at the International Olympic Games in Russia, the spokesman said adding that US Embassy's press release did not have any impact on electoral process and the upcoming Cambodia's general election on 29 July 2018.

It is up to Cambodian people to protect multiparty democracy and to determine the fate of their nations without any foreign interferences.

About 100,000 joint forces will be deployed on election day on 29 July 2018 to ensure security across the nation, especially at the polling stations, according to National Police Commissariat.
