ANKARA, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The United States' use of a threatening language against Turkey is "unacceptable and disrespectful," Turkish National Security Council said on Monday.

The U.S. stance on Turkey's defense industry projects will cause "irreparable damage" to the strategic partnership between both countries, the council said in a statement.

The statement came after the council convened the first meeting under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, since his inauguration early this month, when Turkey's presidential system came into effect.

Relations between Turkey and the United States strained over the trial of U.S. pastor Andrew Brunson, who was arrested in Turkey in December 2016.

The U.S. President Donald Trump described Brunson in his tweet as "a great Christian, family man and wonderful human being," threating to impose sanction on Turkey.
