Phnom Penh (FN), Sept. 3 – Phnom Penh Municipal Court summoned human rights defender Vorn Pov, President of the Independent and Democracy of Information Economic Association, to clarify on Kem Sokha’s treason case on 30 September 2018, court official told Fresh News on Monday.

Prosecutor Ky Rithy decided on 30 August to continue detaining former opposition leader Kem Sokha for another six months at Tropang Phlong prison in Tbong Khmum province, where his request for bail release was rejected.

In March 2018, Phnom Penh Municipal Court once extended Sokha’s pre-trial detention for six months to further investigate his crime.

Sokha was arrested at his house in Toul Kok, Phnom Penh at 00:35 am on 3 September 2017. He appeared in a video published by CBN, speaking of his plans supported by foreigners to topple the legitimate government of Cambodia. His offence subjects to a penalty of 15 to 30 years in prison based on Criminal Code, charged with “conspiring with foreigners”.
