Phnom Penh (FN), Sept. 20 – German Federal Assembly member Markkus Benjamin Kodo announced Thursday that Germany is ready to support Cambodian development based on the existing relationship and cooperation, speaking in a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh.

Eang Sophalleth, personal secretary of the premier, said that Markkus conveyed congratulations from Angela Markel, Chancellor of Germany, to the premier’s reappointment as Prime Minister.

Markkus said that it is his first visit to Cambodia and is happy to see the kingdom’s development, particularly reduced poverty and good welfare for factory workers and pregnant women.

He appreciated the number of prestigious multinational companies coming to Cambodia producing quality goods, especially those for export to Europe.

He reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to assist Cambodian development and expand both countries’ cooperation.

In response, the premier thanked Markel for the congratulatory message and he added that the Royal Government of Cambodian is working on the improvement of working conditions for workers, and maintain macroeconomics and political stability.

It is worth noting that on 6 September, Angela Merkel sent a congratulatory letter to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen for his new term of premiership.

"I wish you every success in your new term of office," Merkel wrote in the letter.

"In the great task of strengthening democracy and participation through an open political dialogue in your country, you can count on Germany," she added.
