Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 24 – Delivering his remarks under the topic "Cambodia’s Investment Prospects in the Globalization Era" at the 2018 World Investment Forum (WIF) held from 22 to 24 October 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen called on all leaders to express will with high responsibilities responding to the global challenge in order to maintain investment climate and geo-political stability as well as to build trusts in financial and industrial sectors.

According to the premier, the world is currently facing a severe trade war that may extend for longer period as some developed countries have taken protectionism policies and unilateralism stance, affecting the interests of most of the countries that support globalization.

He added that trade war leads to the stagnation of the trade negotiation under the WTO framework due to uncertainty of new tax policy as well as the pressures and sanctions which seriously affect trade, investment and export from least developed countries to international markets as well as create barrier to the implementation of the UN 2030 agenda.

Globalization is the global trend that promotes economic growth, reduces poverty and improves livelihoods of the people. Meanwhile, movement against globalization is also taking place due to the growing imbalance of incomes and widening of inequity gap which are causing countries to lose their mutual trusts and fear globalization.

“Based on this, I would like to call on all leaders to express will with high responsibilities responding to the global challenge in order to maintain investment climate and geo-political stability as well as to build trusts in financial and industrial sectors,” the premier stated.

As one of the UN members with high responsibility, Cambodia is ready to work with relevant stakeholders to safeguard free and fair trade system and maintain regional and global peace, security and stability. At the same time, I would like to invite leaders and companies to join us as investment partners to contribute to the development of Cambodia and global growth. On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, I assure all investors of favorable condition and supports for investment in Cambodia, particularly by ensuring peace, security and political stability as well as macro-economic stability and legal and institutional framework with efficiency, transparency and accountability.
