ANKARA, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Over 900 workers of a Nestle factory in Turkey's northwestern province of Bursa went on strike on Tuesday after the company and the labor union failed to reach a deal to end a dispute over wages, Anadolu Agency reported.
"As we could not reach an agreement, we called for intermediaries to help. This did not work either, so we decided to go on strike, and the workers demand a 600-Turkish Lira raise in wages on an equal basis," labor union chief Mustafa Turker told Anadolu.
He noted that the negotiations with the company started earlier this year.
In response, Nestle Turkey said in a statement on its website on Tuesday that it provides "fair compensation in line with market conditions" to its employees throughout its global operations.
It called on the union and employees to reconsider their position and work together to find a solution.
