Phnom Penh (FN), July 20 – High-level delegations of Cambodia headed by Ouch Borith, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Swiss Federation headed by Johannes Matyassy, Assistant to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, held the 2nd bilateral meeting in Phnom Penh this morning of July 20, 2016.

According to a press release, the discussions focused mainly on bilateral ties of Cambodia-Switzerland that include economic and political developments  of the two countries, Asia-Europe regional developments, and other global affairs.

While Cambodia brought up the issue of impacts by Cambodia GDP moving up to low middle-income, the Swiss delegation pledged that Switzerland will join a long-term cooperation for Cambodia’s  development and expressed intent and commitment to become a sector-based dialogue partner of ASEAN, the press release said.

In the meantime, the two countries also signed an “MoU on Bilateral Consultation” that officially makes ways for consultations between the two countries to take place annually.

Cambodia-Switzerland diplomatic relations began in 1963. The bonding friendship is strong, centering development cooperation, trade, investment, and tourism.

During the mission in Cambodia, the Swiss delegation met with representatives from civil society, private sector, and education officials with the view to deeper understanding of the situation in Cambodia. The delegation visited a number of development projects namely Jayavarman VII hospital of Dr. Beat Richner in Siem Reap, the Bophanna Center, and the Parliamentary Institute of Cambodia.
