Phnom Penh (FN), August 1 – Ky Tech, lawyer for Prime Minister Hun Sen, at 10:30 am today, August 1, 2016, lodged formal complaints to Phnom Penh Municipal Court against both the opposition party leader Sam Rainsy and a senator from Sam Rainsy Party, Ms. Thak Lany, both for accusing the government and the Prime Minister of being behind the slaying of political analyst Kem Ley.

As for the exiled leader of the Cambodian National Rescue Party, Sam Rainsy, the lawyer said the premier demanded that Sam Rainsy be punished according to the law and that he would have to pay a damage of 100 Riels($0.025).
“ As a mandated lawyer for Samdech Aka Mohasena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia, I would like to sue and demand as follows: 1) The court punishes Sam Rainsy in accordance with the law and 2) A damage of 100 Riels,” wrote lawyer Ky Tech in the letters of  complaint.

It should be recalled that on July 10, 2016, just hours after political analyst Kem Ley was shot dead in a convenient shop at the center of Phnom Penh, Sam Rainsy came out to accuse the government of being behind the slaying of the political commentator. The government and the ruling party, the Cambodian People’s Party, have then urged that the opposition leader provides sufficient evidence to support the accusation.

Also, a senator from the opposition Sam Rainsy Party, Ms. Thak Lany, in a video clip of her meeting and dialogue with her party’s supporters, went straight forward by accusing Prime Minister Hun Sen of killing the commentator.

Senior government officials take these accusations by the opposition party as a serious painting and causing a serious harm to the image of the head of government.
