HANOI, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) — Death toll by floods in northern Vietnam has risen to 10 on Monday, said a report by the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on Tuesday.

Among the 10 deaths, three died in landslides in northern Bac Kan province and central Thanh Hoa province while four were swept away by flood waters in northern Dien Bien and Lao Cai provinces. Two were killed after being hit by lightning in northern Lai Chau and central Ha Tinh provinces.

Another death was reported in northern Thai Nguyen province.

One person was missing in Lao Cai and four were injured in Yen Bai and Lao Cai following floods.

Altogether 25 houses collapsed in the floods, while 596 others were damaged. A total of over 1,200 hectares of rice and 171 hectares of crop were flooded, said the committee on its website.

The committee warned Vietnam's northern and north-central regions of torrential rains in the coming time.
