Phnom Penh (FN), Dec 4 - Cambodia has dispatched a new batch of 184 peacekeepers to Lebanon under the umbrella of the United Nations Peacekeeping Operation.
The send-off ceremony was held on Wednesday at Phnom Penh Military Airbase, presided over by Gen. Pol Sareoun, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.
The 184 peacekeepers to Lebanon will replace 184 troops of Unit 936 and 79 troops of Unit 908, whose one-year United Nations peacekeeping mission has just ended.
It has been ten years that Cambodia has signed Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations on peacekeeping operation.
From 2006 to 2016, Cambodia has sent 3,557 troops to U.N. peacekeeping mission.
Currently, there are 717 Cambodian troops, 57 of them are females, are on missions in Mali, Lebanon, Central Africa and South Sudan. They are performing as engineers (demining), medical doctors, and military police.
