Phnom Penh (FN), Jan 18 – The number of high-rise buildings in Phnom Penh have skyrocketed, according to a report by the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction.
Counting from 2005-2016, 5-floor to 40-floor building accounts for 791, while there are 134 residential areas (Borey), according to the report.
The investment in construction sector in Cambodia in 2016 was worth $8.5 billion, increased by 155% compared to 2015.
The investment on buildings provides many job opportunities to Cambodian people, a path to reduce poverty and boost economic development.
“In Phnom Penh, we have 140,000 to 150,000 construction workers”, said Huy Nara, Director General of the Department of Construction.
