Preah Sihanouk (FN), Feb 28 - Ten Cambodian children, ages 7 to 13 years old, drowned at Prek Tub lake in coastal province of Preah Sihanouk, causing seven deaths and the remaining three in emergency care.
Provincial police chief Choun Narin said that out of the ten children, nine were female. However, three children including the only male child were rescued by a man at the site.
Choun added that, "This incident is currently under investigation. Autopsies will be conducted on the bodies."
Witnesses at the site said the children live near the lake and played there daily.
According to the doctor, the children were on a boat that sank, and likely due to vegetation growing in the lake. The children probably drowned as a result of the boat sinking.
The seven bodies are being held at the hospital until their families are able to arrange proper funerals for them.
