Phnom Penh (FN), Feb 28 – The Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) issued a statement Tuesday afternoon condemning Ly Poeung, a CNRP leader in Lyon, France for publicly insulting the CPP-led government in Cambodia.
The statement asserts that the CNRP is not responsible for the actions of any individual that acted contrary to the rules of the party, and that that individual is responsible for their own actions and comments.
The CNRP released the statement after the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) issued a call for the CNRP to impose punishment against the French CNRP party leader.
The CPP’s statement claims the CNRP's misleading statements will affect the ability of the CPP to govern effectively by harming the reputation of the party. Further, the CPP believes that the statements made by the French party leader will result in discrimination and hatred among Cambodians that will affect Cambodia's security and peace.
The CPP has called for immediate action and investigation into the case.
