Phnom Penh (FN), March 6 – A former activist for the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), Suong Sophorn, confirmed Sunday that his letter of resignation from the CNRP is genuine and that he intends to hold a conference Monday demanding Kem Sokha to surrender his position as president of the CNRP. The demand follows leaked conversations between Sokha and Prime Minister Hun Sen.

“Prime Minister Hun Sen and Kem Sokha have personal connections, which begs the question: Is Kem Sokha working for the premier? Most CNRP events are supported by the government. After negotiations between Hun Sen and Kem Sokha, a top leader of the CNRP was freed from prison. There are many truths behind, and relating to, these conversations," stated Suong Sophorn.

“The purpose of resigning my position is to propel Kem Sokha to step down and ask Mu Sochua or Kong Kam to stand as the president” he added

Suong Sophorn pointed out that evidence suggests Kem Sokha has been working for Prime Minister Hun and that the two conspired to kick Sam Rainsy out of the country.

Private conversations between Prime Minister Hun Sen and Kem Sokha, from as far back as Sept.25, 2016 have been leaked on Facebook.

During the conversations, the premier suggests that Kem Sokha construct a plan to lead the CNRP after ousting Sam Rainsy.

Ken Sokha also seeked assistance from the premier regarding allegations of sexual misconduct and to reinstate his right to register to vote.
